A Father’s Story

I can still remember that train ride into NYC in November 2005 to see the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center. On the train, my sister-in-law (Jean) mentioned that the American Girl Place was only a few blocks from Rockefeller Center, and that my daughter Grace might enjoy seeing all of the dolls, and their different outfits before we went to lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe.

To say Grace enjoyed the store is like saying that Tiger Woods is a decent golfer – understatement of the century! The first floor hair salon was fascinating. The second floor Historical Dolls (and the rows of outfits and accessories) were like the catalog come to life. But the third floor, with the Bitty Babies, was nothing short of Heaven on Earth. Within a few seconds, Grace had decided that the whole 3rd floor was her personal playroom.

She soon had the Bitty Baby Twins loaded in their stroller, a suitcase from a display packed underneath, and was pushing them around the 3rd floor as any loving parent would (and I thank the AGP staff for being understanding, I’m sure this wasn’t the first time this has happened).

At this point I realized that my daughter wouldn’t be happy just playing with (or owning) one doll, she wanted to play with the whole store!

This site is for all other parents, and their daughters, who have all fallen under the magical spell of the American Girl Dolls.

A little more about me:

I’m Mark, and my family and I live on Long Island, just East of New York City. Being the father of twins means that there is truly never a dull moment. On the rare weekend when I’m not coaching baseball or soccer, or driving the kids to a birthday party, playdate, or the pool in the summer we love going to Manhattan and also the farm stands out East. It sometimes feels as though when I’m at my day job (engineer) is the only time I get to relax. But when the day is done, a simple hug and an “I had fun today Daddy” puts a smile on my face.

So read, enjoy, and share your stories.
