Kirsten Larson, one of the original historical dolls introduced by American Girl, will soon be retired.

Kirsten, and her complete collection will be moving into the American Girl archives. This will allow American Girl to introduce new characters from new eras in American History.

Kirsten Larson, and her family are Swedish immigrants who settle in the Minnesota Territory in 1854. Kirsten’s adventures as a brave pioneer girl have made her a favorite of American Girl fans from the very beginning.

Although Kirsten and her collection will be retired, her books will remain available both online and at the American Girl Place stores, to be enjoyed for years to come.

Samantha to be Retired!

SAMANTHA PARKINGTON – One of the Original Historical Girl Dolls – TO BE RETIRED!

Today American Girl announced that soon Samantha Parkington and her complete collection, including her friend Nellie, and her accessories, will be moving into the American Girl Archives. Samantha’s books will continue to be available.

Although Samantha has been immensely popular since her introduction in 1986, American Girl wants to not only ‘preserve her place in American Girl history’, but also make room for the introduction of new characters and new time periods.

The exact date for Samantha’s retirement has not yet been announced.

How do I remove tangles from an American Girl doll’s hair?

Your dolls hair is a wig!!

It doesn’t have any roots like people do. You should NEVER wash or condition your doll’s hair. The best way to remove tangles is to spray the hair with a little bit of COLD water, than use a wire wig brush—we use the American Girl Doll hair brush to comb out the knots, working from the bottom up. Some American Girl dolls, like Addy, have textured hair, for which you should use a hair pick.

You can also style your doll’s hair after you’ve removed all of the knots. One of my daughter’s favorite accessories is the Salon Chair. Sit your doll in the chair, brush out the knots and style her hair for a fun salon experience. You can watch Grace bruching Julie’s hair in her salon chair below.

If you have a Samantha doll, you can set her hair in rollers while damp, but not wet.

For Kirsten and Molly, braid their hair tightly while damp.

Always remember that for all dolls, always let their hair air dry—DO NOT use a blow dryer or heat of any kind.

Very soon your doll will be ready for play and looking as beautiful as ever.
